Sharon

Not only a beloved, talented seamstress, head of quality managment, and book keeper but also coowner and partner to her daughter, Rachel. Sharon has over 45 years of dress making experience.

Tently

Rachel’s beloved pitbull and lab mix, Tently is here for snuggles when the day gets long and the eyes get tired. Just one cuddle from Tently gets the team amped up to crank out a few more hours.

The Creation of a Gown

Inspiration

Finding inspiration for our new collections is an ongoing activity for Rachel. If a new song that speaks to her comes across her headphones she’ll save it to a playlist for later. She will do the same with an image on Pinterest or a new a lace from our suppliers.

After deciding on a theme and mood for the collection, Rachel finds the perfect songs and images to fit the story. Compiling them, it’s then time to start sketching.

Collection Development

Setting the mood with music and a photo collage pulled up, our designer, Rachel, begins to sketch. Anything that comes to her or feels right. Oftentimes she’ll sketch fourty plus gowns to then scale it down to only ten dresses or less for a new collection. This guarantees that we put the best dresses, silhouettes, and fabrics out there for the new season.

Patterns

Next, it’s time to start developing patterns! This is one of Rachel’s favorite steps as she creates all of our patterns and has full control. Unlike most companies who outsource pattern making, Rachel is an expert pattern maker and does all of it herself, ensuring that we get exactly what she’s invisoning.

Fit Samples

Fit samples are very important when you are working with such expensive and delicate fabrics. A fit sample or calico can show us where the patterns need to be adjusted. Oftentimes we only will do these for tricky designs and bodices as we have the the classic pattern shapes down to a science.

Sample Sewing

Sewing the first samples is always one Rachel and Sharon’s favorite things to do! Working on the gown and seeing the design come to life sometimes can bring around changes that our design team decides to make. If the lace doesn’t look quite right, the sleeve needs to be bigger and bolder, etc. the change can be made immediately!  This is because our designer is there sewing it together herself or working closely with a team member and is still seeing it in every step. In these cases, Rachel says she loves seeing her designs evolve and become something even better.

Photoshoot

Once the designs have been finalized and pressed to perfection its time to shoot them! Choosing the right venue, models and photographer is a job all its own. Making sure the location has the same feeling as the collection and all of the hair and make up match the looks and gowns. It all looks as if it comes together like magic!
